Technical notes & limits
- Only extracts text that’s already selectable. Styling, fonts, and table lines are dropped.
- Scanned, image-only PDFs need OCR PDF first (English, up to 10 pages).
Why text order can look odd
A PDF stores words at exact positions on the page, not as a flowing document. The tool rebuilds lines from those positions. Single-column text comes out clean, but multi-column layouts, tables, and margin notes may come out in the order they appear on the page.
Got a scanned PDF?
A PDF made by a scanner without OCR has no text inside it at all. If the pages you chose have no selectable text, we’ll tell you, so you can run OCR PDF first.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the tool say no selectable text was found in my PDF?
Your PDF is probably a scan made of page images. Open it in OCR PDF to recognize the English text.
Can I extract text from only pages 5 to 10 of a large PDF?
Yes. Type 5-10 in the Pages box.
Is my document uploaded to a server to extract the text?
No. The text is read and extracted inside your browser.
