PDF Security in your browser
Lock, unlock, and clean up PDFs in one place. Add an AES-256 password to sensitive files, remove the password from documents you’re allowed to open, or wipe hidden author details and metadata. Your files and passwords never leave your device.
- Lock PDFs with an AES-256 password.
- Unlock PDFs with their password, or with no password if the file only has edit limits.
- Strip hidden author details, XMP metadata, and file IDs.
- Your documents and passwords are never sent over the internet.
How to use PDF Security
- Choose your PDF and pick Protect with password, Unlock PDF, or Remove metadata.
- Enter a new password (Protect), the current password (Unlock), or just continue (Metadata).
- Click Process PDF, download the result, and check it in your PDF viewer.
Technical notes & limits
- Unlock needs the correct open password (it won’t crack unknown ones). Protect sets an open password without extra print or copy limits.
- Removing metadata only clears hidden properties. Use Redact PDF for text you can see on the page.
Security work belongs on your own device
Uploading a confidential PDF and typing its password into a website hands both to someone else’s server. Our encryption and metadata engine is written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly, so every step of locking, unlocking, and cleaning happens in your browser’s memory.
Releasing a sensitive document? Use all three
For a high-stakes release, do it in this order: Redact PDF to permanently remove sensitive text from the pages, Remove Metadata to clear hidden properties, then Protect PDF to lock the final file with an AES-256 password.
Frequently asked questions
Are my passwords or PDFs ever logged or sent over the internet?
No. Passwords and files stay in your browser’s memory and are cleared when you reset or close the page.
Can this workspace crack an unknown opening password?
No. If a file needs a password to open, you have to enter it. Files that open without one can be unlocked with a blank password.
Does removing metadata also redact text inside the document pages?
No. It clears hidden properties (Author, Title, XMP, file ID). Use Redact PDF to remove content you can see on the page.
